UFOs, Synchronicity, and the Echoes of 1973: The Pascagoula Case

By Anthony F. Sanchez, Author & UFO Researcher
For UFO Currents

At 54 years old, I've witnessed a great deal, including my first UFO/alien encounter in 1975. Many of us have experienced similar events. Interestingly, two years before my life-changing encounter, another significant event coincided with what some may see as synchronicity.

This morning, while browsing the Facebook group "Paranormal Enthusiasts Recommendation Club," managed by Michael R. Johnson, I stumbled upon a post from Christine MantlePhilip Mantle's wife. She announced that the new four-part documentary 'Pascagoula 73' produced by Philip and Darcy Weir will be available on Amazon Prime on January 28th, 2025.

Having followed Philip's work since 2011, I eagerly anticipate his monthly emails. It was with a heavy heart that I recently learned of his illness, which has prevented him from participating in interviews about the new series—a significant loss, given his profound knowledge of UFOs.

The 1973 Pascagoula UFO abduction case remains a touchstone for many UFO researchers like myself due to its credibility and the sheer shock of its details.

In my 2023 book, *The Modern UFO/UAP Researcher's Handbook*, I noted on page 271:

"Charles Hickson experienced a perplexing encounter on the evening of October 11, 1973, while fishing with Calvin Parker by the Pascagoula River in Mississippi. They encountered an oval-shaped UFO with flashing blue lights, heard bizarre sounds, and were paralyzed. Three beings with robotic features and crab-like pincers abducted them aboard the craft, leaving an indelible mark on UFO lore."
It's fascinating that in the same year, the Center for UFO Studies (CUFOS) was established. I discussed this on page 251 of my book:
"Founded in 1973 by Dr. J. Allen Hynek following the discontinuation of Project Blue Book (1969) and NICAP (1973), CUFOS is based in Evanston, Illinois. It publishes the annual 'Journal of UFO Studies' and the bimonthly 'International UFO Reporter.'"
Further exploration of 1973 reveals more intriguing events. On page 266, I wrote about Judy Doraty:
"Judy Doraty's significant UFO encounter in May 1973 near Houston, Texas, involved a Close Encounter of the Fourth Kind (CE4) with her daughter as a secondary witness. She reported interactions with gray entities and telepathic messages concerning environmental concerns, possibly linked to nuclear activities. Dr. Leo Sprinkle's regressive hypnosis sessions unveiled more details. This emotionally taxing incident has established Judy Doraty as a prominent figure in UFO research."
It goes without saying that it was with great honor that on page 275 of my book I wrote about Philip's contribution to Ufology:
"Mantle, Philip: As an internationally recognized UFO researcher, lecturer, and broadcaster, his works have reached a global audience, being published in six languages. He previously served as the Director of Investigations for the British UFO Research Association and as the MUFON representative for England. Philip’s extensive experience includes writing articles for various international publications and holding positions as editor and assistant editor for prominent UFO magazines."
As a UFO researcher, I value the contributions of others in this field and hope for Philip's swift recovery. I encourage everyone to support the works of both Philip and Darcy Weir by exploring their detailed documentation of the harrowing 1973 Pascagoula UFO abduction involving Charles Hickson, Calvin Parker, and Maria Blair—a compelling narrative of alien encounters, fear, and resilience that forever altered their lives. Yes, be sure to not miss the long-awaited film, 'Pascagoula 73'.

In conclusion, I extend my heartfelt thanks to Darcy for featuring my book UFO Highway in his remarkable 2021 film, The Underground. Darcy has established himself as one of the foremost creators in the field, alongside luminaries like James Fox and my good friend Robert D. Miles, among many others. It is essential to have a legacy of films that illuminate the narratives that have long escaped the notice of those eager to uncover and disseminate the truth about UFOs, aliens, and the myriad paranormal, supernatural, and even religious elements that are now casting light on contemporary phenomena such as the mysterious UAP drones and Non-Human Intelligence (NHI), which are gaining recognition at the congressional level.
